Reach hold guards vary in wielding one-handed iron or steel weapons, but still use Imperial bows like their counterparts in the other Imperial-controlled holds. As soon as I set foot outside the gates a dragon attacked, flew over the city and started killing all manner of town's folk, including several guards. Started a new game with the Skyrim Unbound mod, and had Riften as my starting location.
